A Week In France (4/8)

These pictures were taken when Mark and I drove around northern France during September 2008.

Wednesday afternoon we found ourselves in Bourges. Here I am in the road leading up to the cathedral.

Yet another UNESCO listed Gothic cathedral, athough the older Romanesque carved portals date from about 1160-70

Just take a look at these soaring Gothic arches.

This is the famous astronomical clock, designed and callibrated by canon Jean Fusoris. It was put into service in 1424. If you move the cursor over the picture, you will see a close-up of the lower clock face.

A copy of the mechanism of the astronomical clock is displayed nearby in this glass cabinet behind me.
