Central Italy (2/7)
A friend invited us to stay at his holiday home in Umbria during June 2003.
Montepulciano is built on a steep hillside so many of the streets are on a significant incline.
At the top of Montepulciano is the town hall in the central piazza.
Here I am in front of a small fountain in the bright sunshine at Montepulciano.
Not every day was sight seeing. On Monday we drove to the beach near Viareggio on Italy's north-west coast. The water has to be warm to get me into it!
Behind the beach was a nature reserve where we saw many of these flowering yucca plants, a rare sight in England.
