The Lincolnshire Coast (4/8)

These pictures were taken whilst visiting the Lincolnshire coast during June 2004. Some pictures I've deliberately taken to match the angle of an early picture postcard.

North of Mablethorpe is the national nature reserve Theddlethorpe Dunes at Saltfleetby run by English Nature featuring various walks including an easy access walk which was ideal for my mother.

This area has various orchids growing.

This one is known as a Bee Orchid because of its shape and colouring. Presumably this attracts bees to aid with pollination.

Heading south of Mablethorpe we visited Skegness, another seaside town considerably more famous than Mablethorpe. Here is my mother June near to the Victorian clock tower built to celebrate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1899. Move the cursor onto the picture to see the plaque.

A few miles south of Skegness is Gibraltar Point, an important place for migrating birds. Although not a good time for birdwatching when we visited it was very tranquil with atmospheric views.
