Norway Cruise (13/14)

Here are some of my photographs taken during the cruise on the MS Switzerland (since then renamed the MS Ocean Monarch) from Amsterdam up the coast of Norway to the North Cape during August 2001.

Our final destination before returning to Amsterdam was Bergen. When we got off the ship it was difficult to avoid the reporters.

One of the cameramen was filming the ship while we waited for the coach to take us into the town centre.

From the town centre a funicular service carries passengers up a steep hill to an attractive wooded national park area.

The view of Bergen from the top of the funicular was excellent. Fortunately it was a very clear day and we could easily see the mountains in the distance.

The view out of the front of the funicular train was not for the faint-hearted on the way down.

In the afternoon an excursion took us to the house of Edvard Grieg. Here Mark is standing next to a life size statue of the composer.

About a week and a half after the start of the salmonella outbreak a specialist team of cleaners came on board to disinfect the cabins. Here is some of their equipment. During the cruise over a hundred people on board were ill with salmonella. So far I have received most but not all of the promised compensation due to the disruption caused by this sickness.
