Russian Waterways Cruise (7/7)

These pictures were taken during our cruise along the waterways of Russia from Moscow to Saint Petersburg in July and August 1998.

We made a brief stop at the Museum of Russian Political History. This was primarily for a coffee break but I would have liked to stay longer because I liked these large stained glass windows. This one was revolutionary, rather than ecclesiastical.

Saint Petersburg has several beautiful palaces, this is Pushkin and belonged to Katherine the Great. Probably most famous for its amber room, parts of the palace are still being restored after the damage it sustained by withdrawing troops at the end of the siege of Leningrad during the second world war.

Whilst in Saint Petersburg we had the opportunity to meet up with my Russian penfriend Edik and his friend Sasha. We visited the Summer Palace with them.

Here is Edik on the Baltic coast in front of the Summer Palace, just west of Saint Petersburg. We went by train and returned by 'rakyeta', or hydrofoil.

Finally here is a picture of all four of us together with a view of the fountains and the Summer Palace in the background. From left to right is me, Edik, Mark and Sasha.

I hope you've enjoyed seeing these pictures taken during my cruise on the waterways of Russia.
