A Week in Sardinia (5/7)

These pictures were taken while touring the north half of the island of Sardinia in November 2005.

This is Mark with the town of Cabras in the background on our penultimate day in Sardinia. The lagoon in the foreground is an internationally important wildlife reserve (Stagno di Cabras).

Our main reason for coming here was to see the pink flamingoes and we were not disappointed. We had already seen some on the east side of the island near San Teodoro but the views here were much better.

There was plenty of other wildlife as well including this beautiful red dragonfly. We also saw a Praying Mantis and lots of large cacti, and we could smell and see wild fennel.

This is the beach looking out to Stomach Ache Island (Isola Mal di Ventre). The sand here is made up of small rounded pieces of white quartz which is very attractive. In peak season this area would be packed but in November we had it to ourselves and the Micra.

Here we are standing on the deserted beach. It was too cold to go in for a dip.
