A friend invited us to stay at his holiday home in Umbria during June 2003.

  

 

 

 

 

 

We went up to the top of the dome (thankfully by lift). This view shows some of the beautiful decoration and gives an impression of the height of the dome 452 feet or 132.5 metres.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This is one of the Swiss Guards who guard the Vatican.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We then took a taxi from the Vatican to the Coliseum. On one of the higher arches we saw these protesting centurions.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Inside the Coliseum you can see where all the gladiators were kept before being thrown to the lions.
