The Lincolnshire Coast (6/8)

These pictures were taken whilst visiting the Lincolnshire coast during June 2004. Some pictures I've deliberately taken to match the angle of an early picture postcard.

A short drive down the coast from the chalet park is the town of Trusthorpe with the Trusville holiday village. When holidaying here as children my family would often walk from our caravan in the evening along the promenade to the fish and chip shop near here for our supper.

Opposite Trusville are these domed seating areas which always fascinated me as a child. (Place cursor on picture)

Towards the end of the week we looked around a few places in Mablethorpe which we'd enjoyed during our holidays in the 1970's.

During the summer holidays each year my family hired one of the wooden beach chalets on the promenade with easy access to the beach and sea and overlooking Queens Park.

Put the cursor on the picture to see me and my mother behind the chalet.

These beach chalets are very popular during the summer season so we had to book promptly at the start of the year - usually that meant our form had to arrive there on or soon after the first of January. We always asked for the same chalet - number 113 - and usually we were successful.

Looking through the window we noticed several changes. The white ceramic sink has been replaced by a stainless steel unit and instead of gas the chalets now have electricity and an electric kettle. On the right you can see where two brackets were located that supported a shelf with the gas ring on it. A piece of asbestos on the wall was intended to protect it from the heat but by the look of the burn mark above the brackets it didn't do a very good job. I guess we contributed to that when making our many pots of tea!
