Russian Waterways Cruise (3/7)

These pictures were taken during our cruise along the waterways of Russia from Moscow to Saint Petersburg in July and August 1998.

To give some idea of the size of these locks here is our ship and another the same size in a lock at the same time.

Usually the ship made a stop once a day. Here we are at Uglich which was a small town but with this rather delightful church.

Most of the time our ship was accompanied by a very similar sister ship.

During the enlargement of the canal route in the 1930's several towns and villages were flooded, displacing many people. Here is the top of a church which was tall enough not to be fully submerged.

Our sister ship here is leaving yet another lock through which we'd already passed.
