Bird Watching in Speyside (3/7)

Here are some of my photographs taken on a bird watching holiday in Scotland near Aviemore with Speyside Wildlife during February 2002.

This is Lochindorb Castle which we could see clearly as we drove around this remote loch.

Our two guides were Mark and John. Here Mark is setting up his telescope.

At Burghead we were entertained by this row of Redshanks on a wall at the side of the dock. Every few seconds one at the front flew round and joined the queue at the back. It isn't obvious why they do this.

Our guides carefully consulted the weather forecasts each day before we went out to decide on the best itinerary. Our third day, Tuesday, was chosen for a visit to Cairngorm mountain to see Ptarmigan. This is a popular area for skiing and from the car park you can see the new funicular which carries skiers to the top. The funicular does not serve the areas where the Ptarmigan live so we had a good walk ahead of us!
